Puerh tea is a special family of teas created through a lengthy aging process following the normal processing. Puerhs most often start as black Yunnan teas, but Puerhs based on green teas are also starting to appear in the market. The aging process creates a tea with a typically strong, earthy flavor and scent. These teas typically are infused for longer times than black teas yet will not get bitter as almost any black tea will do if left in the pot too long.

Puerh teas are sold as loose teas or pressed into a nest shape (Tuo Cha).
